Revolutionizing Multitouch Technology since 2008

Shaping human interaction. From Berlin across the world, since 2008. At the heart of our work is a passion for revolutionising multi-user experiences on large-format multitouch surfaces. Put simply? We're dedicated to reshaping the way multiple users can engage with a shared digital platform, blending the advantages of both digital and tangible worlds to explore, entertain, and collaborate.

Central to our success is continuous research and development, coupled with the highest quality standards for our products and the technology. We constantly strive to provide the world's best capacitive multitouch object recognition. This ambition has driven us to develop the innovative and uniquely patented technologies we proudly offer today, broadening possibilities and maximising reliability.

With the award-winning AI-based Scape X® technology, we offer unique, world-renowned solutions for the integration of tangible objects into premium multi-touch hardware. But this is only one part of what we are currently researching and developing, on our own and together with a number of renowned partners. Dive into our research world and get an overview of our projects, achievements and approaches.

1995

founding of
werk5 | new craft

Our managing partners Hauke Helmer and Ulrich Mangold met at Technische Universität Berlin, where they studied architecture together. Following their 1994 graduation, they joined Engel & Zillich before establishing werk5, a model-building specialist, a year later. They quickly became one of the leading companies in the new craft in Germany and are to this day a strong and close partner for us.
2008

Inception of
Interactive Scape

Born from werk5's hands-on ethos, we embraced digital innovation with the emergence of new technologies. Initial explorations directly involved natural, tangible user interfaces using optical touch systems. Our debut interactive multi-touch installation graced the 2008 Architecture Biennale, marking the beginning of countless subsequent projects and advancements.
2015

Transition to Capacitive UHD Displays

After years of optical multitouch object recognition experimentation and successful projects for Audi, Dior, Deutsche Telekom, DOW Chemicals, and many more, we shifted to the widely adopted and dependable PCAP touch sensors. This transition birthed Scape® Tangible 4K/UHD screens.
2016

Capore® Object Recognition Unveiled

Leveraging the enhanced capabilities of PCAP technology, we expanded our product line to serve new brands and industries. We introduced innovative objects like Magnify, experimented with active objects named Plus, and executed international lighthouse projects and groundbreaking software applications showcasing the potential of utilising object recognition.
2020

Revolutionizing Multitouch with Scape X®

By incorporating integrated Artificial Intelligence, we elevated object recognition technology to unprecedented heights. Enhancements encompassed superior quality, reliability, and expanded UX possibilities for multitouch surfaces. Highlights included recognition of more objects and IDs, more simultaneous touch points, completely transparent objects, and the pioneering Scape X® Mobile technology.
Today

Ongoing R&D and Global Rollout

We are continuously improving and expanding our innovative products, making us the leading multitouch platform for a wide range of professional use cases. Following the launch of Scape X® Stickers in 2023, we are focussing on the further development of HMI technology through neural networks. Our growing global partner network, which includes experts from various industries, is driving Scape X® forward worldwide and promises exciting developments.
