Recruiting talent for the logistics industry, where speed and precision are crucial, is a challenge. barth Logistik was looking for an innovative way to reach potential warehouse workers at trade fairs – to interactively show them the tasks involved in the job and enable them to assess whether the job suits their skills and interests.
In close collaboration between PONG.Li Studios and Interactive Scape, the vision arose to create an immersive and playful experience that realistically depicts typical tasks and challenges of a warehouse worker. The aim was not just to create a simple simulation, but an experience that would immerse trade fair visitors in the world of logistics. The application relies on a combination of physical objects and an intuitive digital interface that makes interactions with a warehouse worker's daily work exciting and lively.
The developed application uses a multi-touch table as a central platform. A cube with marked sides allows users to navigate through the various stations of a working day. From registration in the morning to breaks and the end of work, each step is transformed into an engaging and playful activity. The game is divided into three levels that simulate the core tasks of a warehouse worker: 1. unloading trucks, 2. loading trucks, and 3. identifying and reporting damage. These interactions on the multitouch surface simulate the typical workflow and provide an intuitive insight into the daily work routine.
Additionally, users can work with a real hand scanner to simulate processes such as scanning and sorting goods. The combination of physical interactions with digital response creates a hands-on experience and allows potential applicants to realistically assess their suitability for the job.
At the barth Logistik exhibition booth, the multi-touch table became the center of interaction, where visitors could experience the challenges and responsibilities of a warehouse worker in a playful way. The cube and the hand scanner offered an intuitive introduction that actively involved visitors and lowered inhibitions. By quickly reacting to changing scenarios, visitors got a feel for the pace of work and the demands of logistics – an experience that helped them realistically assess their suitability for the job and experience for themselves whether they were cut out for it.
The use of gamification in recruitment proved to be extremely effective. The application promotes engagement and simplifies knowledge transfer by giving potential employees a deep insight into the necessary skills and requirements of the logistics profession. Playful elements increase learners' motivation and enable intuitive and tangible knowledge transfer. This positive dynamic is further enhanced by the seamless interaction between people and technology through Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI)
